Recapping Week 9 of the NIHL
Saturday 9th November:
The first game of the weekend saw the Swindon Wildcats defeat the Hull Seahawks in dramatic style. Aaron Nell scoring the overtime winner after the Seahawks tied the game with 59 seconds to go. The Cats player coach leading by example with a three point night.
The Berkshire Bees suffered a tough defeat at the hands of the Telford Tigers in their first of two games against eachother this weekend. The Tigers running away 6-1 winner with Henderson scoring twice taking his tally to 11 points in 7 games. Thomson also having a great weekend scoring and assisting three.
The Bristol Pitbulls left it late but secured a huge 2-1 victory against the Solway Sharks as captain Tanner Butler scored with 8 seconds left of the game. Tommy Nappier saving 39/40 shots on the night to hand Bristol their fifth win of the season.
The Peterborough Phantoms ended the MK Lightning’s 33 home game unbeaten streak in the league as they beat the Lightning 4-3 in overtime. Captain Luke Ferrara with the winning goal to hand the Phantoms a huge two points on the road.
The final game on Saturday saw the Leeds Knights defeat their northern rivals the Sheffield Steeldogs 5-2. Finn Bradon scoring a pair with Bissonnette adding another three assists to his tally.
Sunday 10th November:
The Romford Raiders secured a cup spot after they defeated the Sheffield Steeldogs 6-3 at the Sapphire. Shaun Miller with back to back hat-tricks after he scored three goals again tonight. Sylvester also came back into the lineup and scored two goals!
The Leeds Knights made a huge comeback from three goals down to beat the Swindon Wildcats 5-4. Kieran Brown having himself a night scoring four goals and assisting the game winner. This win hands the Knights a four-point weekend and keeps them top of the table.
It was a goal fest up in Hull as the Lightning handed the Seahawks their first loss at home this season. Mack Stewart scoring four goals in a 9-5 win which keeps the Lightning second just two points behind the Knights. Jordan Cownie also helping himself to five assists on the night.
The Peterborough Phantoms secured a four-point weekend as they beat the Bristol Pitbulls 6-4 on home ice to extend their winning streak at home. The Pitbulls made a late push but Luke Ferrara scored with just over a minute to go to put the nail in the coffin. This win now puts the Phantoms joint third with the Seahawks and Raiders.
The final game of the weekend saw the Telford Tigers secure a four point weekend as they shutout the Berkshire Bees 2-0 with Brad Day making 35 saves on the night and only conceding one goal across both games this weekend. Thomson scored both goals for the Tigers including another through the legs goal which will certainly make it on the goal of the week.
